Waterfall China Hutch Makeover

I used Old Fashioned Milk Paint in Mustard Yellow and Snow White to update this outdated Waterfall China Hutch.

This Waterfall China Hutch was left next to a dumpster.  I scooped it right up knowing I could make it look pretty.

Waterfall furniture is certainly not my style of furniture.  This particular piece had many small pieces of veneer missing.  But, that's an easy fix especially if you are painting.  I used a little wood filler, let dry and sanded to smoothness.

I used two colors from Old Fashioned Milk Paint in Mustard and Snow White.  I knew I wanted a nice yellow, but Mustard was just a bit much on the golden side.  So, I added Snow White into the mix.

I love mixing colors with Old Fashioned Milk Paint.  I think besides the coverage and how fun it can be to see the results, mixing is one of my favorite things to do.  I love to see the variations in colors I can achieve.

This was the exact yellow I was looking for.  A nice not too bold yet not too pale.  Once I had my paint mixed, I let it sit for about 15 minutes.  I clean the cabinet well, then I used a sanding block and scuffed it up good, and then wiped it down again ensuring all the dust was removed.

I wasn't looking for a chippy look, I poured about 1/4 of my mixture into a separate cup & I added in some extra bond.  The extra bond would only be used in my first coat & it allows for the milk paint to adhere without creating that chippy paint look.

I gave the hutch 3 nice coats of milk paint.  I then used Daddy Van's clear wax over the entire hutch.

It's super smooth and it looks nicely updated now.  I absolutely love this color!!  And, the Daddy Van's wax finished it off so nicely.  I use a wax brush and it goes on so easy.
