Office Makeover with Modern Masters Metal Effects walls

Disclaimer:  Even though I was blessed with Modern Masters product, my thoughts are my own, and 100% true!  Please note their are links to Modern Masters websites.

Happy Friday... And, by happy you have no idea how happy this girl is right now.

I am super excited that I am getting to show you my long awaited office makeover!

A lot of different elements & techniques went into this office.  From painted shiplap floors to the German Schmear technique to walls turned rusty with a patina effect which was created by using Modern Masters Metal Effects.

Let me start off by showing you what we had going on... This will give you the gist of where we were starting..

Using Modern Masters on the walls

Obviously from the very beginning!  We were starting from ground up, and doing this project together...he has his specialties, I have mine.  We built our home together, and survived.  My best guess was we'd make it through this as well.

We had to insulate & drywall before I could even get in there to touch the room.  Lucky for me I have a very handy husband that did a ton of the work for me.

Once all of the drywall was up, and my husband installed faux brick panels to the walls, I was able to go in & put my touches on how I saw the room.

We installed shiplap flooring and applied multiple layers of paint to achieve the look I was going for.  We also did the German Schmear technique on the faux brick panels.  Be on the lookout for a post on both techniques.

German Schmear Technique

I will be walking you through the entire process on a later day (because there's a ton of information), but for today I really want to show off my room.  The room I poured my blood, sweat, & tears into over the last several months!  The room I get to sit & chat with you from.

Are you ready to see why I am doing the happy dance, and not just because it's Friday!?!

Ready...

My vision was coming to life here..  it's a lot of wall space to be doing a decorative wall technique on, but I was determined & I prevailed!

Office Makeover with metal effects

I have a very difficult time finding my truly favorite area in this room.  The walls were done in the Modern Masters Metal Effects green patina, which is one of my favorites of the line.  I do also love the blue patina, but green is my favorite color.  I also used the rust activator because I just love the look of rust, and the Modern Masters Rust Activator works amazing!

Ok..now you ready?

This is my desk space, where I get to sit, sip coffee, write, create, inspire, and just soak in all that I love doing in this room!  If you follow me on instagram, facebook or twitter, you will have seen me talk about my love for all things Modern Masters Metal Effects.  I would patina everything I could get my hands on.  I am in complete awe of how it turned out!

My little buddy...always by my side.  I had to move him out of the room to finish photographing the room.
This is my sitting area...  My girls love coming to hang out while I work & so I wanted a place they'd be comfortable reading, relaxing or just chatting with me about their day.

Do you see that yummy patina finish on that wall?  Each time I walk in, I stare at the walls & love the variations the metal effects took on.

I won't lie...I went to bed a few nights taking a couple of Motrin to calm the ache in my back, but it was short lived.  This wall was well worth it & will live on for a very long time!

Modern Masters Metal Effects Green Patina

As much as I'd like to say this is one of my favorite spots to be I can't...there's too many to have just one favorite, but I am super smitten with this area!

I still sit back & pinch myself that I created this space...and it's mine to enjoy!  It's a dream...

I was going for a very rustic, industrial type of look.  That bookshelf is one of those cheap metal bookshelf with the pressed wood.  I used my Modern Masters rust activator to create a rusty look.

The black filing cabinet.. I also used the Modern Master metal effects and partnered it up with Old Fashioned Milk Paint to create a rustic feel.  I will be doing a full post on how I achieved that look.  But, the rusty copper pops through, and depending on the hour of the day & where the sun is sitting the color will bring you different variances in the way the copper/rustiness peeks through.

All of the furniture was either heading off to the dump, given to me or purchased from Habitat ReStore.  I talk about the furniture makeovers and pulling this room together in my blog post office makeover furniture.

If you could pick one part of this room that is your favorite, what would it be?  The office desk area or the sitting area?  The walls, floor, or furniture?

It is rare that my husband comments without being prompted on my projects.   This one needed no prompting!  That made my heart happy!

Did you know that you can now purchase Modern Masters Metal Effects kits?  They come in all 3 of the different effects.

If you are tying the look for the first time, it gives enough material to test it out & at an affordable price.  Or if you are working on a few small items the kits are a perfect size.  But, trust me when I say it's addicting!

This was the first time I've used the metal effects on walls & on anything of this size.  I couldn't be happier with the way they turned out.  My office is original with a rustic, industrial vibe that spits a little sass out at ya... I'm in love!

I hope you enjoyed the room as much as I enjoyed showing it to you!

  14. We are building a new house and I am currently in the process of modern masters metal effects on my kitchen walls. I am applying the rust activator now but curious about your next step...I was gonna put some copper over the rust in various areas to add the green patina to, could you share some insight on your steps after you rusted it? Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Amber..thank you for stopping by. I sprayed the rust with the green patina activator at the same time. This is because you will need to go back with the oxidizing paint where you want the green patina to show up. So what I did was once I had the oxidizing paint on the wall, I sprayed the the rust & then my green patina spray directly after.
