Empire Buffet makeover using Miss Mustard Seed Typewriter (Black)

Happy Friday!!  Happy Weekend!!!

I am writing this post in the airport in Philadelphia on my way to a blog event in Williamsburg, VA. The event is by Benjamin Moore (which as someone who paints a mass amount of furniture...I am stoked)!!  It is an exploration of the heritage, history, and colors that have inspired the 144 hues of Benjamin Moore’s Colonial Williamsburg Color Collection. If you follow me on Twitter & Instagram, you can follow along on this incredible experience.

I know I can't wait to post a ton of pictures..

I love the look of Empire dressers/buffet/side tables.  And, this Empire Buffet is no different... except it was on tired looking side.

It just needed a little updating to freshen the look up.

I picked this buffet up at a local auction last year (I know, can you believe I've let it sit for a year!?!).

The first order of business was to fix the gouge in the top that you can clearly see here.

I then prepped it for painting.  I cleaned it since it was in my garage for so long, it needed a good wipe down.

I am not sure if it is fall that has me loving black furniture, but I am in love with the classic look right now.

I gave it 2 coats of Miss Mustard Seed Typewriter.

I painted the inside of the drawers a color called Vintage by Americana Decor Chalky Paint Finish.

I very lightly sanded it using 220 grit sand paper.  I let it naturally distress itself.

I changed out the knobs that reflected the color tones of the buffet, a black with brown accent showing through.

I then used CeCe Caldwell's Dark aging creme and went over the entire buffet.  I let it sit for a day and buffed, adding another coat and wiping down.

The look is updated and just added more years to it's life that otherwise was very short lived.  When I picked this guy up at the auction no one wanted it.

One of the auction workers said that it almost didn't make the cut.  The clean out crew was told it was headed to the dump because it was heavy, and no one wanted it.

Luckily a few of the guys loaded it & brought it to the auction house.  I was happy to have it, give it a fresh new look, and another chance at life.

With much love, peace & happiness
